The central challenge
Television, desktop and in-car interfaces have different inputs, constraints and expectations; a universal client would compromise all of them.
CASE STUDY APPLICATIONS
One search experience, adapted to every screen.
Case study of Video Stream Player: shared search, history and playback across macOS, web, mobile, Android TV and CarLink with platform-specific clients.

Video Stream Player connects search and playback across devices. Core history and logic stay familiar, while navigation and the player adapt to desktop, television, mobile and car environments.
Television, desktop and in-car interfaces have different inputs, constraints and expectations; a universal client would compromise all of them.
Search and history are shared at service level, while each client uses navigation and playback technology suited to its device.
We separate the real problem from steps created only by limitations of existing tools.
We define the data model, key scenarios and an interface that remains clear in daily use.
Frontend, logic, data and integrations come together in one working system.
We test critical paths, access, error states and realistic use before further development.
A single entry point helps find a file without manually browsing its sources.
Unfinished content and recent items remain available across clients.
The interface supports computer use as well as quick access in a browser.
Navigation is designed for a remote control, a large screen and playback through ExoPlayer.
A dedicated client uses a suitable player and simpler controls for the in-car environment.
The transport layer distinguishes source errors from interrupted transfers and can safely restore a valid connection.
The verified stack combines Next.js, React, TypeScript, Electron, Kotlin, Android TV, ExoPlayer, Cloudflare, Upstash, VLC. Each technology was selected for the role it performs in the product, with maintainability and real operation in mind.
The product maintains one recognisable user logic without ignoring how each screen is actually used, from keyboard and mouse to remote control.
